In the wilds of Vermont, the team at relaxshacksDOTcom is hard at work installing polycarbonate roofing for their upcoming Tiny House Summer Camp 12. The micro cabin they've built is a masterpiece of reclaimed materials, with old fencing wood and cedar trim adding rustic charm. The corrugated metal exterior gives the structure a timeless yet modern look, all while being practical and easy to work with. The cabin is cleverly partially buried into the ground, not just for aesthetics but also to keep rodents at bay and create a unique visual effect of the cabin growing out of the earth.
Inside the cabin, every inch is utilized efficiently. A raised bed captures stunning views out the windows while providing ample storage underneath. The space features a mini fridge, a gravity-fed water system, and clever storage solutions like storage above the bed that flips down to reveal hidden compartments. What's more, the cabin is versatile - it can serve as storage, a guest room, or even a temporary living space while a larger cabin is being built. The interior space totals 85 square feet, including a bathroom equipped with a composting toilet and a foot pump sink, all insulated and featuring reclaimed windows for sustainability.
The attention to detail extends to the exterior as well. The team has constructed unique "master tables" that not only serve as work platforms but also offer lockable storage, all made from secondhand materials. The metal roof, made from individual pieces of roofing material obtained through Habitat for Humanity, showcases their creativity and resourcefulness. The structure is firmly anchored to the ground with concrete footings, ensuring stability and adding value over time. While new framing is used for the interior for efficiency, the rest of the cabin is a testament to the team's commitment to sustainability, with almost everything being secondhand or reclaimed. Additionally, a 50-gallon tank stores water for the shower, powered by a solar panel and a propane hot water system for off-grid living at its finest.
